Refinish or full colour change?

A same-colour refinish brings back paint that has faded, oxidised or had its clear coat fail. It's mostly the outside surfaces. A full colour change is more involved: to do it properly, door jambs, under the bonnet and boot lid, and other areas you see with a door open need painting too, which means more parts come off the car.

What goes into a respray

1. Trim, badges, lights, handles and seals are removed rather than masked, where practical, so there are no hard paint edges around them.
2. Existing paint is sanded back. Dents, stone chips and rust are repaired before anything else.
3. The car is primed, and the primer is sanded smooth.
4. Colour and clear coat are applied in the spray booth.
5. After curing, the paint can be cut and polished for a deeper gloss, then everything is refitted.

Before you book

• Talk to us about the colour and finish you want. Metallic, pearl and multi-stage colours cost more to apply and are harder to touch up later.
• In WA, if you change your vehicle's colour you may need to update its registration details. Check with the Department of Transport.
• If you're insured, tell your insurer about the colour change.
• Consider a wrap if you want a colour you might change back; consider paint if you want a long-term finish.
