What can be repaired

• Scuffs and scrapes. Sanded, filled where needed and refinished in the car's colour.
• Dents and push-ins. Plastic bumpers can often be heated and reshaped.
• Cracks and splits. Plastic can be welded or bonded from behind, then smoothed and painted.
• Broken tabs and mounts. The clips that hold the bumper in place are often the first thing to break. They can usually be repaired or replaced on their own.

When replacement makes more sense

If the bumper is torn through in several places, badly distorted, or missing pieces, a new or second-hand bumper cover is often the better option. We'll price it both ways where it's close, so you can decide.

Check what's behind it

A bumper cover is only the outer skin. Behind it sit the reinforcement bar, energy absorbers, brackets and, on many newer cars, parking sensors, radar and cameras for driver-assist systems. After a solid hit, we check these too. Damaged absorbers or sensors that are knocked out of position won't be obvious from outside but matter for safety.

Paint and finish
